Konkana Sen Sharma is now Mrs. Ranvir Shorey. Konkana Sen and Ranvir got married on  Sept 3, 2010. Ranvir and Konkana exhanged vows at their Goregaon residence, Mumbai Mirror reported.

The two have been living in together for the last two years. The Bheja Fry actor was spotted atop a ghodi and looking his best. A source told the tabloid, “Ranvir clearly stood out amongst all the baaraatis and was looking smashing in his wedding attire.”

The wedding ceremony was a blend of Bengali and Punjabi traditions. Koko looked beautiful in a traditional Bengali attire complete with her grand mother’s jewelery. Ranvir was decked up in a traditional shervani complete with flowers form head to toe.

Places is far better in terms of protecting user privacy than previous new feature roll outs such as the Instant Personalization service launched in April. Nevertheless, Places can still reveal important data about you if you don’t take the time to adjust your privacy settings.

Configuration Dilemma

Instead of explicitly opting you in by default for Places, Facebook leaves most of your Places privacy settings unconfigured and you have to manually set them up. Choices include settings that let you share your check-ins with all Facebook users or just your Facebook friends. One setting allows your Facebook friends to initiate a check-in for you (for a primer on what it means to “check-in” see PC World’s Geolocation 101).

he most crucial setting is the one that allows friends to check-in for you. If you leave this setting unconfigured you end up in a kind of privacy limbo, as TechCrunch describes it, where you have not opted in to Places but you’re not opted out either.

Let’s say a friend initiates a check-in for you at a bar called Louie’s. You will then get a notification telling you your friend checked you in at Louie’s. Since you are in privacy limbo, you will be given two choices: always allow others to do check-ins for you or ask you about this setting later. If you choose to be asked again, or if you do nothing at all, your presence at Louie’s won’t be registered in Facebook as a place you visited. However, your presence will be broadcast to others via a status update in real time. Since a friend could tag you in a regular status update and reveal your location that way–the thinking goes–why not allow the same functionality in Places?

The other problem is with third-party applications.   Even if you lock down your location-sharing data so that only your friends can see it, your data could still be sent to a third-party application. Let’s say your friend Linda uses Facebook to connect to Pandora. Once Linda authorizes Pandora, that application can access Linda’s Facebook data and any of the publicly available data from people on Linda’s friends list. If you’re on Linda’s friends list that means all kinds of data about you can be shared with Pandora if you haven’t configured your privacy settings.

Why, Facebook? Why?

So why does Facebook do this? Based on the company literature I’ve read, Facebook believes the more open your data is, the better your experience on Facebook will be. Your data is also enticing for third-party applications that connect with Facebook. True, Facebook’s policies are supposed to prevent third-party apps from using your data for anything other than enhancing your Facebook experience. But who can guarantee that a rogue business isn’t building a profile on you based on the data they collect from Facebook?

It’s also much easier for Facebook to automatically turn on a new feature, thereby forcing it on users, than to try and convince you to activate the new feature yourself.   And without new features that enhance your user experience, you might become bored with the service and look elsewhere for your online entertainment.

So the neverending cat-and-mouse game continues, with Facebook activating new features to entice you to use Facebook more often than you already do. Users who care about privacy scramble to turn off the new features as soon as they appear.

Samsung has announced the launched two new phones in India  Samsung Champ and Omnia Lite.

The Champ is the smallest and cheapest touchscreen handset in India by Samsung. It features a 2.4-inch resistive touchscreen that has a QVGA resolution. It has a 1.3 megaixel camera at the rear and also boasts of various connectivity options including Bluetooth and USB. The phone costs Rs. 4,100 only, making it arguably the cheapest touchscreen you can buy from one of the mainstream phone makers out there. You might want to read more about the Champ here.

The Omnia Lite (B7300), the device is a Windows mobile 6.5 based device. The phone is a full fledged smartphone using Microsoft’s previous generation OS and supports MS exchange server push e-mail and IBM Lotus NoteTraveler. Other features include 3G connectivity, 3 megapixel camera. The device is also DiVx and Xvid ready. It has 250 MB of internal memory expandable to 32GB using microSD cards. The phone has a resistive touchscreen and is capable of 240*400 pixel resolution.

Motorola Droid X

Motorola Droid X is their recent release and it hyped to be an iPhone 4 killer. Though it didn’t beat iPhone 4 in terms of sales, but it remained as a great competitor for Apple iPhone 4 in terms of the technology and features. Motorola was very happy with their Droid X as the first day sale has beaten down all their ‘conservative’ prerelease reports.

As the controversy deepening over alleged corruption in Commonwealth Games projects, the Congress on Wednesday virtually backtracked from its remarks giving a clean chit to two Union Ministers and the Delhi Chief Minister, and distancing itself from IOA chief Suresh Kalmadi.

“We have neither given any clean chit nor any unclean chit to anybody. We are neither holding any brief for anybody nor indicting anybody,” party spokesperson Manish Tewari said at the AICC briefing.

Mr. Tewari’s comments were significant as they were at variance with those of his colleague Shakeel Ahmed, who had told the party briefing on Tuesday that the integrity of two Union ministers M.S. Gill and S. Jaipal Reddy, who are looking after Games-related works, is “beyond any doubt”, while that of Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit “is also of very impeccable integrity”.

He had also said Congress MP Suresh Kalmadi is not there as a party representative but as the Chairman of the Indian Olympic Association. “Serious charges have been levelled against the Commonwealth Games Organising Committee….As the Chairman, he will reply to them,” Mr. Ahmed had said.

However, Mr. Tewari said, “We are not making any value judgement…if concerns been have raised, they have to be answered constitutionally and statutorily.” He said Mr. Ahmed might have made those comments responding to questions in a certain context.

Mr. Tewari said if any decision has to be taken on the fate of Mr. Kalmadi, “it is for the Association to take.”

The Congress spokesperson said at this point, everybody should step up their efforts and get the job done to fulfil the country’s “international commitment” about holding the Games.

“If at all, a post-mortem on the efficacy of Games, its impact on India’s image and its building capacity is to be done, it can be done after the Games,” Mr. Tewari said when asked to comment on Congress leader Mani Shankar Aiyar’s criticism of the Games.

Asked about the Opposition’s demands for an independent probe into the issue, Mr. Tewari shot back saying, “Is the CAG not independent?”

He also said that there is “an inherent and in-built mechanism of investigation in the CAG’s functioning” and stressed that the process of investigation which is going on should be allowed to continue.

Now it looks like a gigantic financial scandal. The Central Vigilance Commission has found that quality certificates in at least 16 Games projects are either forged or suspect.

Now it looks like a gigantic financial scandal. The Central Vigilance Commission has found that quality certificates in at least 16 Games projects are either forged or suspect.

More frightening is how prevalent corruption has become in our system, as if we needed further proof of that. The Commonwealth Games is an event that will show to the world that  how we are ready to shine on the international stage.  But in reality we have shoddy workmanship, badly-made and potentially dangerous infrastructure and a few richer contractors, bureaucrats and politicians, which may result in national shame and international dishonor.

The  current sports minister MS Gill has again raised the question of the spiralling budget — Gill claims it has jumped 18 times from 2003, from Rs611 crore to Rs11,494 crore.

After the  inauguration of the new-built weightlifting auditorium at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium Complex  monsoon showers exposed the inadequacies of the venue that will host the October 3-14 Commonwealth Games.

Because of the heavy rains, the cracked false ceiling left seepage all over the auditorium as well as a clogged entry and exit to the venue which is part of the JLN Stadium Complex.

Mr Reddy said “I see a lot of negative stories appearing these days but I don’t mind if they are constructive in nature,” he said. The field of play of the venue will be tested only on August 7-8, when the lifters and officials enter for the re-scheduled test event.

According to the status report submitted to the government, of the 19 venues, all but four have been completed and are ready to be handed over to the Games Organising Committee. Sunday was the day set for handing over the venues. As of now the Games Village, the Yamuna Sports Complex and the training venue at Jamia Milia Islamia are nearing completion. The Yamuna Sports Complex, which will host both the archery and table tennis events, is set to be handed over on August 15.

Perry Crosswhite, Australian Commonwealth Games Association chief  on Monday said the Delhi Games have turned into a political battle in India with parties trying to settle scores by raising a furore over alleged corruption and construction delays. “It looks a little political to me,” Crosswhite was quoted.

“It looks like the parties and the government there is having a go at each other, and no doubt everybody has got their little axe to grind,” he said.

The CWG Organising Committee has been hit by charges of wide scale corruption and the civic agencies in Delhi are racing against time to complete the much-delayed construction work at the venues.
